Top Tips For Moving Made Simple!

*this is a sponsored post*

Oh, the joys of moving. It’s something completely necessary at least a few times throughout each of our lives and also something no one enjoys. As with most things, our process of moving matures with time and our needs change. Gone are the days of haphazardly throwing all our belongings into a box and asking a friend to help us carry the sofa in exchange for a cold beer. This is especially true if you’re moving any sort of long distance. Moving successfully takes planning, organization and preparation. Read through below to check out my top tips for making the moving process as streamlined and stress free as possible.

  1. Make a to-do checklist:

Having a to-do checklist in advance is going to make things much easier since there are many important smaller ticket items that may get lost in the shuffle of everyday life while moving. Tasks such as gathering boxes and packing material, scheduling a cleaner and changing utility services start to add up quickly. A list will help keep you at ease as you check off items and steadily cruise toward moving day.

  2. Always hire professional movers:

This one is key and I promise it’s worth the investment. If you’re moving within the Denver metro and surrounding areas, a company such as Taylor Moving And Storage, LLC and Boulder Moving Company will be absolute life savers.

  3. Pack your least used rooms in advance:

Let’s face it, packing takes a long time. I would suggest getting a head start by completely packing up your least used rooms in advance and always make sure you label your boxes.

  4. Don’t make this your time to organize and declutter:

Sure, throwing away unnecessary junk may be a good idea as you pack, but don’t use this as your opportunity to try and organize every drawer in your home. Stay focused and get all your belongings securely packed up. You’ll have plenty of time once you’re fully moved into your new home to organize and declutter as needed.

  5. Schedule a move out deep cleaning:

If you’re tempted to do all the move out cleaning yourself, I would again suggest going to the professionals. Think about it… do you really want to take a tooth brush and scrub the window trimmings in every room in your home? Probably not. Hiring a professional means the job will be done quickly, efficiently and it’s often cost effective as well.

  6. Ship your car:

When making a long distance relocation, shipping your car often makes the most sense. You can shop around to find the best rate and most companies will even allow you to pack items into your car. Having your vehicle shipped can be much more simple than trying to drive it across the country as you move. This is especially true if children and/or pets are involved.

  7. Pack your overnight bag:

This is another absolutely essential step. No wants to pack all their belongings only to realize after they’ve shipped that they don’t have clothes for the next day. Make sure to put all your daily toiletries and a few days worth of comfy clothes into a travel bag. Even if you’re not moving far this will help smooth the transition since you’ll have a few extra days before you need to unpack every box.

  8. Find your tribe in advance:

This last tip is one of my personal favorites. Spend a bit of time before you move researching your new area and make a list of things you want to check out. This will help you get excited and love your new home and neighborhood even more quickly. Are you a big fan of coffee shops? Start researching a spot you can visit immediately and start becoming a regular. Enjoy running or long walks? Map out your new route in advance and start life in your new home on the right foot (pun intended).

And there you have it! My top tips for moving made simple. With all of this in mind, I hope to have helped during your moving process and please feel free to reach out to me if you have any additional questions or concerns when moving!
